PMI's New 'Vanishing Fog' Makes Adding Smoke Easier Than Ever

I used to think all fog machine liquid was the same. Never once had I considered that a new fog formula could be far better than what I've been using for decades. PMI's Vanishing Formula Kit has changed my opinion, and today I test it against three of the most popular portable fog systems on the market.

Portable fog machines have become one of my favorite tools for photography and filmmaking. Whether I'm shooting portraits, product photography, miniatures, or cinematic video, adding a little smoke, mist, or haze can instantly elevate a scene.

Welcome to the June Critique the Community! For this contest/critique, we are doing another abstract theme that should allow more photographers to enter. For this month we want to see your best photograph that feature "Motion Blur". If you have images that showcase fast moving subjects, camera shake, long shutter speeds, or anything else that epitomizes motion blur, we would love to see them!

I Printed a 10 Foot Image and It Was Almost TOO Big

Printing a photo that's nearly 10 feet wide sounds excessive, but I wanted something that would completely transform my space. What started as a simple landscape shoot quickly turned into the largest (and most rewarding) print I've ever created.

Laowa's new probe zoom lenses are finally here, and they might be some of the strangest lenses ever made. For the last two months, I've been shooting with the most unusual of the bunch—the 15-35mm T12 Periscope Lens—and the shots it produces are unlike anything I've ever captured before. Let's dive in and see what makes this lens so unique.

OBSBOT Tail 2: The Best Tracking Camera I've Ever Used

As content creators, we're constantly searching for that perfect balance: professional-grade equipment that doesn't require a full production crew to operate. It's a challenge I've faced countless times: wanting cinematic tracking shots, multiple angles, and broadcast-quality footage, but without all the gadgets that require additional camera assistants to run them. The OBSBOT Tail 2 aims to solve exactly that problem, and right now, it's available for $999 (down from $1,199) during its Black Friday promotion running through December 1st.

Can Micro Four Thirds Compete With Full Frame? Testing the OM System 50-200mm f/2.8

For years, I've heard the same argument repeated over and over: micro four thirds cameras just aren't professional enough. The shallow depth of field can't compete, the image quality falls short, and serious photographers should stick with full frame sensors. Honestly, I didn't know if this claim was true or just internet chatter. So when I got my hands on the brand new OM System 50-200mm f/2.8 lens and decided to test it against my Sony a7 IV with the massive Sigma 300-600mm f/4 lens, I knew this was going to be an eye-opening experience.

Applying your custom editing style to all of your raw files so every scene looks consistent can be exhausting. Lightroom presets can help, but with changing lighting conditions and variable exposure settings, you often still have to make tons of micro adjustments image by image. With the release of Aftershoot's Instant AI Profiles, you can now automate all of your presets quickly and easily.

Welcome to a new Critique The Community! October is here which for many conjures up memories of football, autumn leaves, and of course Halloween. But for this month we want to focus on shallow depth of field and that obsession photographers have with Bokeh.

Welcome to a new Critique The Community! September is usually a month for transition and we want to embrace change. For this month we want to see images that required you to think "outside the box" or use a clever approach that lead you to creating an interesting image.

The Weirdest Way I've Ever Used a Light Modifier

Photographers are always chasing fresh perspectives—but this time, I didn’t just change my angle, I completely flipped the rules. During a golf-themed shoot, I turned my light modifier into something it was never meant to be: the view from inside the golf hole itself. Here’s the story (and the shot) that came out of it.

Every photographer dreads the moment their work gets stolen — but what happens when the President of the United States is the thief? Will this lead to one of the more interesting copyright cases in recent history?

As always, please write a short story on how you took the portrait, what camera gear and lighting you used, any challenges you faced, and any other interesting information about the shoot in general.

If you haven't seen the new series "Adolescence" on Netflix, it is by far one of the best cinematic experiences of 2025. The four-part drama is being praised not only for its intense subject matter and acting but also because each episode was filmed in a single take with no camera cuts or movie magic transitions. Let's take a look behind the scenes to see how it was filmed.

Welcome to the March 2025 Critique the Community Contest! For this month's contest we want to see your best images taken with an older camera you've owned. This could mean your previous smart phone camera, an older DSLR camera, or even a modern mirrorless camera that you've since replaced with a newer camera. Obviously this opens the door for a ton of entries so we are asking that you add a little information about the camera you used to create the photograph and what camera(s) you are now using.

Welcome to the February 2025 Critique the Community Contest! For this contest and critique we wanted to switch up the theme a bit by asking you to submit the most difficult and challenging images you've ever taken. Maybe the shoot was difficult because of the time constraint or because of the talent was high maintenance. Perhaps you decided to build an elaborate set from scratch or it required a specific weather or lighting event that doesn't happen often.

The dream of having a gimbal that can auto-track your subject while leaving you free to focus on your own movement is finally a reality! I tested the new iSteady M7 smartphone gimbal by Hohem, and it's pretty remarkable. If this is the future of gimbals, we are in for a treat!

Welcome to the first Critique the Community Contest of 2025! Since it is deep winter in the Northern Hemisphere, we decided to make this month's theme "Winter." You can submit any image you've taken that captures cold, winter, or freezing elements. This theme isn't reserved for landscapes only, so feel free to submit your best portraits or product shots as well.

For the final photography contest of the year, we want to see your best images taken in 2024! There isn't going to be a specific genre for our December contest so anything goes as long as it's one of your favorite or most successful images of the year. Of course it must have been taken or published for the first time in 2024.

For our next photography contest, we want to see your best dramatic photos ever taken! The theme is dramatic but the genre of photography can be anything.
Every couple of years, our network access storage (NAS) gets nearly full of old photoshoots and video projects. Today, I am installing our biggest system yet, and it can hold a whopping 160 TB of data.
For the last few weeks, I have been filming with the brand new GoPro Hero 13 Black and the new DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro action cameras.
